RTD will hold a series of public hearings in September to discuss a fare increase proposed for January 2009 due to increased fuel prices and shortfalls in sales tax revenues. It is proposed that Local, Express and Regional cash fares increase by approximately 14 percent. For example, a Local fare would increase from the current rate of $1.75 to $2.00. RTD is also proposing to limit participation in the Eco Pass program to employers with 50 employees or more. Detailed information on the proposed fare structure and public hearing process can be found by clicking here.
The Regional Transportation District will implement its August Service Changes on Sunday, August 17, 2008. RTD Service Changes are implemented several times per year to improve the overall quality and efficiency of the RTD system. Public meetings were held in June to solicit public comment regarding the service changes. New bus schedules for the affected bus routes are now available on all buses and at all RTD transit centers. The service changes may also be accessed online at www.RTD-Denver.com.
Looking for a way to save money on gas while helping to lower your carbon footprintt? Joining a vanpool reduces the cost of your daily commute, saves wear and tear on your own car and alleviates the stress of driving alone. The Denver Regional Council of Governments’ RideArrangers program organizes vanpools for commuters in the metro area. Currently, there are seats available in a vanpool from the Westminster park-n-Ride, leaving at 7 a.m., going to downtown Denver. The vanpool leaves downtown Denver around 4:50 p.m. heading back to Westminster. For more information about other vanpool routes, or to join this existing vanpool, please contact Elisa Herold at 303-480-6755 or visit www.drcog.org and click on RideArrangers.
With the airlines expecting more passengers this year than ever, also expect DIA parking lots to fill up quickly with holiday season travelers! For information on parking prices and availability at DIA parking facilities, visit www.flydenver.com and click on Parking Availability. Consider leaving the car at home and using a shuttle service like SuperShuttle to take you to the airport or RTD’s skyRide bus service. SkyRide is a convenient and affordable way to get to the airport with DIA service from 16 park-n-Rides throughout the region and fares between $7 and $11 per trip. For schedules and the full list of skyRide stops, please visit www.rtd-denver.com and click on skyRide in the left hand menu. SuperShuttle information can be found at www.supershuttle.com.
Big events like the Colfax Marathon can cause many road closures and detours for many RTD routes. RTD wants to make sure that you can still get to where you need to go! Visit RTD's Detours/Alerts page for more information.
